Reading Activity

For reading we have been reading a persuasive text about the Evil Drinking Fountain. We decided to write another persuasive text convincing someone the object we chose had a special power too. Here is my persuasive text about the Evil Rubber

I knew the rubber was evil.

On a hot Monday morning in class we were doing doing maths I was constantly making
mistakes. I picked up a rubber and started to rub all my mistakes on my book. Right after
morning tea I rushed to get my maths book and flipped onto the page I did my maths on.
I stayed for a minute at the page and all of my maths disappeared. I never told anyone about
what happened.

While we were doing maths a classmate called Kruz was walking to the teachers to get some
advice. He looked down a saw a rubber lying on the ground. He picked it up and threw the
rubber back into its container but after he threw the rubber he looked inside of his maths book
and all of his maths was gone so he had to restart at lunch time.

I stared at the rubber Baylen had on his table. He was using the rubber. In my mind I knew
something was going to happen. Baylen left to put the rubber he was using away. I checked
Baylen’s book when he was going to put the rubber away nothing happened to his maths
but when he came back to carry on his maths suddenly disappeared.

That's all of the reasons why I think that the rubber is evil and we should get new ones!

Prezi Contract

In class for reading we have contracts to do I chose prezi.I  chose an animal to research about and wrote 5 questions and answered all of them on a google doc I chose tigers. I wrote my questions and answers on a Prezi and put it on my blog.

The Luge

In class we wrote about our favourite thing on camp. We made a Prezi about it, in the Prezi there are images and a safety video of it. We wrote what we did and facts about the luge and the gondola.

In Writing my group went on soapbox to read our creature story. We took a video of us reading it you. Soapbox is an app you can record yourself and your screen at the same time.

Shape Attributes

In maths we are learning about a shapes. We went in buddies and took photos of shapes. We wrote how many sides and vertices each shape has. We also wrote about if the sides were equal.

                      An square has 4 sides, 4 vertices and all the sides are equal length.

                                 An octagon has 8 sides, 8 vertices and all the sides are equal length .

Cave Panting

In class we have been learning about cave paintings and why cave men drew them. Here is the type of cave painting. I think they used a stick, grass, leaves and fur to paint them. Or they used their fingers to paint on the wall. They used limestone for the white colour, charcoal to create the black colour and red ochre for the yellow, red and the yellowish brown. I think they made this cave painting because everything they saw they drew, or they drew to tell a story so we could see what happened in the past and to warn the others about the things they saw.

Little Scientist Video

For inquiry we have been doing a lot of experiments to see reactions and outcomes. We went into groups to make a little scientist video. My groups experiment was to see what will happen if you put a special marble and a cup of coke. We changed the water to coke. We took videos of each of us doing a part. We made our movie on I movie. Picture Art

In He Puna Hangahanga my whole class searched on the internet for a piece of art. We chose the piece of art that we liked. We all searched on CC Search. This is my piece of art that I really liked. I chose this piece of art because when I'm older I can remember myself when I was little playing rugby. It make's me feel successful through my rugby season. Also It make's me feel like one day I'm going to be a famous rugby player when I'm older just like how Dan Cater got famous.  I also chose it because my dad used to play rugby a long time ago. That's all the reasons I chose this piece of art.

Chunky Chalks

Our Teacher Mrs Palmer  read us a story of how to make chunky chalks.We followed the procedure to make it. It was amazing we worked in pairs for this. My favourite part when I was making it and I put the coloured dye into our chalk mixture.
Chunky Chalks
What will happen when we mix Plaster of Paris with water?

Plaster of Paris, water, bowl, spoon, measuring cups, 2 plastic bags.

  1. In a bowl tip 2 cups of Plaster of Paris and ¾ cup of water.
  2. Add some dye to colour it.
  3. Stir the mixture until there is are no lumps and it is smooth.
  4. Divide the mixture in half. Put half in one plastic bag and the other half in the other plastic bag.
  5. Take all the air out of the bag and seal it up.
  6. Put the bag on the bench and after an hour make an observation.
  7. Leave there for at least 24 hours.
  8. Open the bag and see what you can do with it.

  1. After an hour we picked up the plastic bag and it felt warm and was starting to go hard.
  2. The next day it was very hard and had formed into a shape.

Gypsum (calcium sulfate) is one of the ingredients of Plaster of Paris. Gypsum is found as a mineral rock. The calcium sulfate is bound together by water which keeps it in its solid form.

When gypsum is heated gently water is lost and the crystals become white powder. When we add water to this powder, the water recombines with the gypsum. As this happens the mixture gets hot (an exothermic chemical reaction occurs) and forms a paste which then sets hard.

Build Your Wildself

I have discovered a new creature I looked closely, it had eyes of a rat, arms like a scorpion and horns of a bull. I went at the back of him and saw huge wings behind him. I named him Beast Boy. Pretty weird you think? Luckily I got a little bit of his DNA and this was his real name. This was the first discovery I ever made but it ran away never to been seen again.

In He Puna Hangahanga in inquiry we have been making butter for a book creator. We been learning about how to make a book we wrote it about us making butter. We did the questioning, hypothesis, equipment, method, 2 observations, results and adaption .All the things we did is in my book. This was about a science experiment where cream turned into butter. Some of it didn't work for us. I hope it works for you.

Coke and Mentos

In reading we did an experiment about coke and mentos. We did a padlet about it. We did the method, equipment, results and observation. You can use other flavoured mentos it really doesn't matter. We used chocolate, mint, fruit and rainbow. That's all the flavours we used. We did this mentos and coke experiment a long time ago but we changed the mentos to see the reaction if it is the same or not.

Rope Bridge

One more step, no I can't do it. Wait this is a rope bridge this is my chance I can do this. Here I go. My hands were sweaty and shaking and I was holding on to the rope as tight as I could. Some of the brown planks were wobbly. My heart was pounding so fast. I could not look at the ground it was scary. Wow my teeth were clinched together. I walked slowly to the other side of the bridge.

We're here. This is a nice view from here. I can see the big sun. It looks beautiful. I saw birds chirping in the sky. It is all quiet. I'm under the tree this grass is smooth and soft. This is the best relaxing time I've ever had. I just want to stay here because it is warm and comfy. It feels like I'm at home. This is the best sunset view I've ever looked at.

The Marble And Water Experiment

Hypothesis: I predict that when you put the marble in the cup with water it is just going to float.

Materials: water, a cup, a marble made out of special plastic.  

  1. Fill the cup with water.
  2. Put the marble in.
  3. Wait for a day to see what happens

  1. When you put the marble in the cup of water bubbles formed around the marble.
  2. The marble has disappeared and there are lots of bubbles on the side of the cup.
  3. The marble soaked up all the water and the marble got bigger.
  4. All of the bubbles popped and the marble was squishy, clear and bouncy

Result:When the marble was in the cup It created air bubbles because the marble
bought all air in the cup to form them.The marble soaked up the water to make
it bigger.When the marble got bigger it pushed the air bubbles to the side of the cup.The
marble looked like because the marble has more water than plastic so it looks
like water.

Adaptation: If you use different liquid instead of water will it have the same reaction?

Playing Doge ball

GO! The game begins we started throwing the blue balls. Then people started to get hit we had to get a goal to let them be in our game again. People were still getting hit. After that there were only 6 people in my team.The other team were winning by miles. It was like they were robots. Then I got someone out, when I got him my teammates were starting to get more people. NO! My teammates got hit. There were 3 people left in my team and the other team had 8 or more people. As soon as I threw the ball the other team hit  2 of my teammates. It was just me. I tried to not get hit. I was so tired. I threw the ball but then my teacher said, " That's to hard for Vetaia so we will put the whole team back on''. Then my team went on to win and we all cheered.

On Tuesday we went to Gordon's Bush. I said ''Where is Gordon's bush?'' When we got there we went inside the bush and there was a path. When we saw our 1st plant it was harakeke. I whispered to my friend ''Does harakeke grow here?'' My friend said ''Yes!'' I felt so surprised that harakeke was there. When I saw a bush on a tree I quietly said ''Look there's a bush on a tree that's weird.'' My friend said "Yea that is wired." Nearly at the end Awhina the woman who took us to the bush,  told us about the vine. It was up and over and it went over each other. When I saw it I said ''Look at that plant, its weird.'' The last plant was kawakawa that we learnt about after that we went to the car park.

Going To Science At Te Manawa Palmerston

Yesterday my class were at Palmerston. We went to do some activities Te Manawa museum. We had art and science. After art we did science. I said to myself ''What are we doing for science? ''We had to make the popcorn dance! We put vinegar and baking soda together in the water and it made the popcorn dance it was going up and down. I thought it was going to explode but it made the popcorn go up and down. It's weird that the vinegar and baking soda didn't explode. When we put the vinegar and baking soda together it looked like it was going to explode but my buddy's said ''Told you it was not going to explode." I really enjoyed doing experiments I hope we can do some more at school.

Boom! Ms Nation said go loudly. My ears hurt so bad. We were running on nice smooth grass.When Ms Nation said go I nearly tripped over because someone stupids foot went in front of my foot. I knew it was my friend that did that. I ran slowly in the start because I knew I would lose my fast gas if I didn't. I was a quick man though. I was so nervous because it was my second longest cross country in my life.

Magic Play-Dough Poem

In Room 1&2 we have made play dough and we gave it a squeeze to see if it would change colour. We wrote a poem about what we did, wished for, what happen and how we felt.
Here is mine.

I got a bag of play dough and i gave it a squeeze,
I gave it another squeeze and was told to be gentle please.

 If my colour turned red or blue,
 I knew my wish might come true.

 I wished for a new toy car because cars a fun,
And I will drive it in the sun.

 So my wish came true because it turned blue,
And my friend saw me so then he got a clue.

 So he got his play dough and he gave it a smash,
But his play dough turned into ash.

I took it out of my bag and It felt comfy,
So I put in the box and I saw the play dough bumpy.

At Rutherford my class and I were doing activities. We have been split in 3 groups. Each group had a activity I did craft with our teacher.  We were making pompoms. We started off by drawing a circle on cardboard. Then we drew a little circle in the middle. After that we grabbed scissors and cut the outside of the circle, it was hard. After that we grabbed some wool we used the wool to cover our cardboard. In the next session we are still winding our pompoms. Some of us were up to using needles to thread through the final lengths of wool. In the last session we finished our pompoms we had to cover the hole. Then we cut around the edge so it could go fluffy. After that we put a key ring on then we decorated our pompoms we made our pompoms into an alien key ring. The hard bit was when we wrapped the wool around and into the hole, the easy bit was decorating it.

How to make a pom pom key ring
Materials and equipment
  • Wool
  • Cardbaord
  • Compus
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Ruler


  1. First, using a compass make a circle on the cardboard the size you would need to attach onto a key ring.
  2. Next make a smaller circle inside your first circle about 2cm from the edge.
  3. Repeat the first two instructions so you have two cardboard circles.
  4. Cut the small circle in the middle out.
  5. Now choose the colour wool you would like to start with and measure 50cm of it.
  6. Attach the wool to the cardboard and start winding it around the circle until you have used all the wool up.
  7. After measure another piece of wool and repeat the above instruction.
  8. Keep using different coloured wools until you have filled up the hole in the middle half way.  This is now the time to attach the key ring to the pom pom.
  9. Then you continue putting wool around until the middle hole is filled up.
  10. Finally you cut the wool that is between the two pieces of cardboard and tie it tight to make a sphere shape.
